This work is entitled Ayat-ayat Cinta and written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. It is published in December 2004 by January 2008 in Jakarta.

My general comment about the book is Interesting !

The following is some detailed quality I found in the work.

First, when I read it I feel that the story is reasonably developed. It talks about a love story between two humans that have a different background. One is an Indonesian man having an opportunity to study abroad in Cairo, Egypt and the second one is a student from Cairo too. They are falling in love each other and then doing a marriage. Although they have to face an unfair condition in the middle of their love journey but finally they could solve it wisely based on Islamic law. Several things that built the psychological truth are :

1.      This novel is reasonably developed because it contains of our daily life about love, religion, social, politic and culture.

2.      It tells us about the relationship between human and human & human with their God which consists some conflicts that usually happen.

3.      It is not made just anything, but there are some true sources. There are from Islamic book, hadist and holy qur’an which are being a  true sources.

Besides

However, this novel’s is not only consists of humans love theme with other but also humans love theme with their God that are implemented in our daily life. So, it bundles love novel, cultural novel and Islamic novel into the one story. We can learn about Egypt’s culture, norms and social condition at there without visit the place directly. 

Secondly, this work indicates high originality. It is not about the theme but the way this work is presented. I think the terms belong to the writer’s own creation because he represents the true habitual activities in Cairo seems like he knows all the cultural tradition at there (I was surprise to see many proud comments and responses about this novel which makes me realize that I was a lucky girl because I have choose a right choice for reading this novel). In addition, it teaches me that we have to see a problem from the different side, we have to face our problems calmly, always put effort to solve it, and hand the decision over to God. I think I have never read the expressions before (This makes me conclude that this work offers new experience to me).

Thirdly, when I read this work I got a lot of impression in the creativity of the author. The author use the simply language which are unique, touching, have a religion nuance and about romantic love. The most interesting thing is the story especially tell us about Islamic religion’s problem which comes in the story. For examples : the Islamic law about polygamy, how to be a good human who near with their God and what we have to do in such condition. This story gives us an example of a good marriage which appropriate with Islamic law. It was explaining the answer of its problem, so it is not making us confused and easy to understand the content.

This work really teaches me about life. It gives enough lesson about life in a real life that actually makes us aware that we have not enough knowledge about Islamic religion. So we have to deepen our Islamic knowledge by learn more. This novel also tells us about reality of life that fulfill with many conflicts we cannot run from it. They will teach us how important to be a good person with a good behavior and also learn us to understand deeply about the meaning of life & love. It is also be able to be religious spreader media for the members of Islamic community in the world.
